Your time at university will have given you a great grounding in the theory of pharmacy practice, but now’s the time to put what you learn at university into practice. During your placement you will gain hands-on experience, bring your knowledge to life and find out what a career in community pharmacy is really like.
Here at Lloyds we take pride in our training and your six week structured training programme, is specifically designed to prepare you for the changing demands of a modern community pharmacy. You will hone your technical and clinical knowledge but you’ll also develop a huge range of capabilities, including things like your communication skills, team working ethos and organisational abilities.
A summer vacation placement allows you to try-before-you-buy and is a great way to prepare for your pre-registration year. Competition for places on our pre-registration programme is high, so it’s also a great way to impress us early on.
Working alongside an experienced pharmacist, you’ll learn about the day-to-day running of a community pharmacy, and the direct contact you’ll have with customers will improve your communication skills and boost your confidence. All of which will give you a head start when you apply for pre-registration positions and a better knowledge of community pharmacy and your potential career path.
The programme is delivered to correlate with the three different stages of the MPharm degree and enables you to dip in and out of the programme as required. You will also find you have an opportunity for a significant level of input, allowing your learning and training to be surprisingly flexible
Your application form is your chance to make a great first impression. The form allows you to tell us about the things you’ve been involved in and the things you have achieved. It gives you a chance to showcase a little more about how you think and your natural strengths and abilities.
It may sound obvious, but don’t rush your application and don’t be tempted to bend the truth. Take some time to read through the form and have all of the appropriate information to hand ready to complete the form. Be honest about who you are and what you’ve done, we hope this will be the first step to joining us and we want to know from the outset, what really makes you tick
So before you sit down to complete the form, take some advice from us:
-
We will want to gather some important information from you, please ensure things such as your contact details are accurate , up to date, and regularly checked
-
We will ask you to complete a series of questions relating to key pieces of information, so it’s worth having them to hand. These will include:
-
Where it is that you are currently studying and which year of study are you in
-
What is your educational background including what grades you achieved
-
What work experience have you had so far [paid and unpaid]
-
Whether you're eligible to work in the UK and if so by what means [This isn’t used as a screening criteria but it helps us to understand your current situation]
-
Right from the outset we involve you in what your placement looks like, and that includes where you’ll be working. We'll be asking you choose a number of locations you’d like to work in and ranking them in order of preference.
-
We do this is because some areas of the country are more densely populated with pharmacy students than others, and locations such as London, Manchester, Birmingham and other big cities are all very popular choices. Lloydspharmacy has branches across the whole of the UK, and in order to increase your chances of success we recommend you select a broad spread of branches/areas [rather than picking 4 within 3 miles of each other].
-
Ever considered 6 weeks on the beach and surfing on the Devon and Cornish coastline…..?
-
If you are a 3rd year student, remember, whichever location you are offered for your 2012 placement is likely to be your preregistration location if you are successful.
Lloydspharmacy Fit Questionnaire
-
We will ask you to complete a short questionnaire so that we can find out a bit more about your natural skills, strengths, behaviours and actions.
-
There are no right or wrong answers on the questionnaire, it is simply designed for you to tell us what you would do in certain situations.
-
Please do not try to second guess the questionnaire, answer honestly, and with the answer that first comes to mind, to give the truest representation of your strengths and capabilities.
-
Before you hit the magic ‘submit’ button, please make sure you have completed everything; you can’t go back and change it once you’ve submitted it.
-
Regardless of whatever the outcome is, you will hear from us [initially via email] so please keep an eye out, and we’ll look forward to hearing from you
